Commenting on point no. 3. That's for sure that high PR does not ensure high traffic. Like other newbies I used to have the same misconception that you will start good traffic when you achieve high PR. But the fact turned out to be otherwise.

However on the other hand, if you get numerous back links with anchor text of a popular keyword then there's a fair chance to rank well for that keyword and eventually get higher traffic through that keyword.

So the statement, "High PR does not ensure high traffic" cannot be regarded as an absolute statement. It all Depends on the anchor text.

Hey John, thanks for reminding me that your blog exists! :) Here is my contribution...

I have heard many people complain about not just wikipedia but also any major website whose articles pop up so easilly as soon as they are published while all of us mortals have to work hard for that search term.

This is a big problem if you are working on reputation management for a client and there is a newspaper article that talks bad things about them. What to do? Well Will C from Distilled suggests to do result replacement! How? Submit another article about the same person or product to that same online magazine or paper and the new entry will replace the old one as Google values fresher content when it comes to news websites.

Pretty clever huh!

Another technique is to monitor their up time wait for the moment their site goes down (even for a short time period and while it's down submit a result removal request directly with Google. This apparently removes the link from the index for months. But that's a bit greyhat itsn't it?

I noticed this with Adobe Reader ranking first for the search term click here but I think in this case it would be because of all the backlinks with this anchor text, yet the website doesn't have the term click here at all on the site.

If what you are saying is correct it is a real shame as the small business has a real tough time competing against the big guys as it is and they do not need another kick in the guts like this. The online world should be a level playing field and not biased like this.

Search Engine Optimization is certainly an alternative to traditional marketing methods, as it gives high ROI in less cost. We all need to promote SEO to companies who still depends more on traditional methods.

Anyways, Nice post!

Keep rocking!

This article is right in the nail ! From my experience, the Google since the beginning of 2008 is starting to shift its policy. Google has become really efficient displaying fresh and relevant contents to the users.

I would even say that your internet pages linking could be more important than external links.

I have pages ranked right in the Top 10 when I keep churning out new content pages every single day. And it was a relatively new site.

In fact, I feel safe with the current Google policy. You simply just focus on building relevant, quality contents and Google takes care of YOU !
